3 can't be divided by anything besides 3 and 1.
A prime number is a number with only two distinct factors.
1 does not count because it only has 1 factor.
2 is the first prime, its factors are 2 and 1.
The equations for primes are good and they already figured it out but I am seeking more knowledge from my French celestial girlfriend and she has delivered three times now I guess.
It just so happens that only prime numbers can satisfy that expression and conditions I posted above, until 341 which is the first nonprime number that satisfies my formula, which means that my formula failed and said that 341 was prime when it has more than 2 factors in reality...
There are good formulas already though, I like the factorial one.
So (n-1)!+1 determines the primality of all numbers.
15 is not prime because 3*5 = 15
but 17 is prime because there are no numbers that can multiply to be 17 except 1 * 17 (ie only 2 factors, 1 and 17 are the two factors).
If every number before a prime number multiplied together + 1 can be divided by that number then that number is prime.
So
1*2*3*4 = 24 + 1 = 25 and 25 can be divided by 5 to equal 5.
1*2*3 = 6 + 1 = 7 but 7/4 is not whole so 4 is not prime, and it has factors of 1 * 4 = 4 but also 2 * 2 = 4 which means 4 is not prime.
My little formula (which is barely mine, although technically I did find it genuinely I guess) anyways, my little formula finds all the prime numbers but starting at 341 it starts finding numbers that aren't prime too which makes it a useless guessing game in the long run.
