It's the sharp curve that makes them dense. Hence the earlier analogy about a bed of nails. If you have one of them it can push deep into the field lines creating that pressure point but if you have a bunch they all push up at the same time and support the field lines.

The hilarious part of your post is that the flow through a pipe isn't actually proportional to area in real life. The relative roughness of a pipe is inversely proportional to its diameter. If we are talking about a very slow, laminar flow, and we keep the surface finish the same, a pipe with twice the area will drain more than twice as fast.

The electric potential doesn't exist. The 100 V/m figure assumes a completely flat, dry desert. If you place obstructions around the ground, the surfaces of equipotential are disturbed and this value no longer applies.

Even in the example of one needle or no needle the densest field is at the top of the wire as that is the part with the highest m^2/m^3 ratio *the end of the wire has the outside area plus cross sectional area where the rest only has outside area)

given feynman says 10 micromicro amperes through air from 100v/m, resistance of air is 1*10^15ohm which is 5.95*10^22 more than copper.
I'm not gonna try figure out the resistance as a function of the geometry of a tree/fractal someone could do that though. The geometry maximises the m^2/m^3 and the material minimizes resistivity. Who knows maybe it would be so efficient you could cost effectively make it out of gold
