I either need a medium size shirt or a large size shirt. The circumference of my chest, as measured by a tape measure, is 38 inches.
The "width" of the medium shirt is 20 inches,
The "width" of the large shirt is 22 inches.
When we discuss the human body based on the chest, really what we are describing is an ellipse, an elongated circle where one dimension is distorted compared to the other. Armpit-to-armpit (our major axis) is longer than chest-to-spine (our minor axis). So really, "width" of the T-shirt in this case translates into either
>A the major axis of our ellipse
>B the circumference of our ellipse
>C the perimeter of our ellipse
All three of these require math that I am incapable of. I do not want to get the wrong size and then have to send it back if it does not fit.
Would you recommend medium, or large?
