Why are blue and red universally considered as the complete opposite of the other?
Is there any science reason other than the meme "blue cold red hot" answer?

I wouldn't say universal, as >>10969540 points out. But certainly colors kinda match moods- yellow is mellow, blue is calm and loyal, purple is passion, red is aggressive, etc. I can see why aggressive vs calm is the easiest to differentiate.

Reminder you're all brainlets when it comes to color
This is the scientifically true model:
Red - Cyan
Green - Magenta
Blue - Yellow

Cyan IS NOT Blue. They are equally different as Red is to Yellow.
Magenta IS NOT Pink. Pink is Red with added White.

There are two sets of primary colors:
Additive & Subtractive (Light & Pigment)
Additive Primaries: RGBW (Red, Blue, Green, White)
Subtractive Primaries: CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black)

In terms of pigment and paint, you can mix Magenta and Yellow to get Red. You can mix Cyan and Magenta to get Blue. You can mix Cyan and Yellow to get Green.

cmy and rgb are just different sets of 3 dimensional basis vectors to trick the 3 different cones in our eyes eyes into thinking we see a specific wavelength when we really don't

Look into opponent process color theory. There's some psychological and neurological evidence for it.

It actually seems to say green and red are "opposite" in a certain sense.

That's only Christendom tho.
It's historical. Traditionally red represented manhood (it's the color of blood) while blue represented womanhood (it's the color of Virgin Mary's cape).
Cultures without those historical associations don't see red and blue as opposites.
It's just that most countries you have access to were colonised by Europeans.

Hot things emits EM-radiation from the left side of that spectrum. Red/yellow light. Further down the spectrum we have infrared and heat radiation which feels warm. Go even further down the spectrum and we have microwaves which heats water. It's not as easy to explain why blue is associated with the cold, but I guess you can come up with something reasonable if you try.

Very nice. I guess water (which takes the colour of the sky, blue) almost always feel cold in the wild. Both in liquid and solid form. The "sky" itself (air) also feels cool when it touches you (wind). The sun glows of yellow and red (sunrise/sunset). When it is overcast and cooler the day takes on a more blue color.

They're not. Red's opposite is green.
You can't even have reddish-green or greenish-red as real colors because the way you see colors is through oppositions in responsiveness of photoreceptor cells in the eyes to red vs. green and blue vs. yellow.
