Conceptually understanding math

I'm an absolute brainlet and I want to understand everything I'm doing in math and why it works, and not just be able to solve mechanically.
What's a good book for this, starting from the ground up?

just look up a decent set of textbook pdfs and go in order, from arithmetic, to algebra and geometry next, to advanced algebra, to calculus. Just read it and do chapter exercises before continuing. If you get that far, come back.

Personally I can't think of "math" per se as the image seems to mean, but I can come to conclusions and process information faster than I can display my train of thought through speech, then I'll articulate myself afterward.

I'm also known to be pretty long-winded when speaking in a way that I make my thoughts perfectly clear to those I'm speaking to by using plenty of details and examples. Am I a legit autist?

I suppose you are onto something with this meme but not capturing it fully. I have the impression that mathematical thinking definitely is aided by mere visualization, but that what you often end up with is a more abstract form of pattern thinking that we tend to conceptualize as visual thinking because it is closer to that than to verbal thinking.
