My field of information systems crosses a lot with AI. Most of the papers are just there to shill for something, or nonsense in one way or another. Legit papers I've read that came up with clever methodology usually get ignored and have low citations in favor of some shill papers that talk about some social effect on privacy that AI has or something.
>>10962852I'd say it's even worse with sociological sciences but policy makers do not treat them as seriously anymore as in the past since their internal data often contradicts those studies. The upside of it being that bad is like said above that people do not take them as seriously anymore. Meaning the field has already sort of partially lost its credibility. The degrees do not transfer well into the labor market. Research that gets produced is either boring with no new insights or crazy, not reproducible, false and weird conclusions with even stranger hypotheses. Nothing new, groundbreaking or innovating will come from these areas.
