Are the programming aspects of Cs worth going to college for?

I know you need to complete the entire degree to become a CS degree holder but what if you don't care about the degree and just want to take the courses that are necessary to get CS jobs?
Is it a waste of time to study programming at college and should you only take the mathematics courses of CS?

if you honestly don't care about getting a degree, there's literally no point in wasting years at school. if you spend several hours a day doing actual programming, reading about it on stackexchange etc. you'll be ready for a job in a few months. I'm not saying school is useless, you learn a lot of stuff there, but nothing that you can't learn by yourself as you go.

If you are into systems design and working on mission critical applications like RTOS and financial software, a solid foundation of software engineering principles, OS design, systems design, security and cryptography is required. Doing all that by yourself, will probably drain your motivation before you know it. College is designed to force you to be rigorous in that regard. Companies won't hire people who write sloppy code just because they put the relevant tech stack in their resume, they are looking for candidates that have PROVED their knowledge in their respective domain. College does precisely that. Now you decide.

What would you study which is a part of the CS curriculum at college?
Assume I'm some kind of entrepreneur who doesn't need credentials, just enough to understand what kind of person I have to employ and what he's actually going to do, and to check the quality of his work.

just learn a programming language. Start with C and then maybe C++ and Java and then go from there. You could probably find Programming in C++ for dummies at your local library
