The fly's brain has been scanned at the nanscale. One of the most amazing things about studying the structure of the brain is that as a biological computer it does not calculate sequentially. The brain, as well as the Universe as a whole, is non-sequential in its calculations. Therefore to achieve optimal full brain emulation will require a rethinking of our computer technology: quantum computers have the promise of simultaneous calculation, like the brain, and will blow past Moores law. Modern computers can calculate a billion operations a second or what have you, but quantum computers will calculate a billion operations SIMULTANEOUSLY. And this is what will be needed for full brain emulation.
