Get your student guild fired up about this. Your tuition fees should cover the costs to perform assessments - that's literally the point. My university has a policy that unit coordinators can't require students to buy books or online testing licenses and it's directly because of the student guild kicking up shit about it until it changed.

Lmao I know OP is american because this shit only happens in the US. I remember a teacher tried to steal money from students by selling his own textbook riddled with mistakes and typed on word that he printed at home. He wanted like 50$ for that pile of turd so we got pissed and stole his fucking usb flash drive and shared the pdf of the book amongst ourselves. The guy kept reminding us to buy the book from the bookstore if we haven't because the queer didn't get any sales that semester. We then made a dropbox for the engineering students which everyone could access with all the textbooks, past assignments and past finals. Good shit.

I'm in canada, quebec to be exact. We don't take shit over here lol. Last time they tried to hike tuition, everyone went on strike and we lost a whole fucking semester lmao. I was also doing STEM, so I dont know if other programs are more likely to use wiley plus or other online stuff like that.

I’m in the US, and only the first year calculus and physics sequences required an online code to do homework. From then on, all homework was either given on the course webpage via TeX or assigned problems from a book, leaving you to reference either a pdf or a reduced price book. Fuck funding the Rudin mansion with a book whose most recent edition was released in 1976 - I bought the Indian edition with all the content for just $10 off abebooks.
Hell I’ve had the professor send me paperback copies of their springer textbooks after asking them in office hours.
