What is it like to be an alien species to us yet equally intelligent? What is their internal qualia? What is the difference between pain and pleasure apart from personal physical reaction to it? How else do we describe it to others in a way they can understand? We barely even do it accurately, qualia isn't a topic that is studied much except in terms of psychological experiments. So we don't even know if ours are all similar. But what is it like to experience a set much different from that which you are used to? In other words, what's it like to be a sentient organism with a body architecture, specifically brain architecture, significantly different from ours in a way that vastly modifies how they interpret the world? These are strange beings, but in a way we hold kinship with all sentient beings through our ego. Is the ego required to be sentient? What will it be like to be a sentient machine? Not just to be around one as a human, but rather to be one among humans and among nobody else unless networked through interactions with others whose internal states are not disclosed? Non-networked super-AIs live in a very solipsistic position.
