Maybe. To be honest I have more interest in FRC reactors, but their is some good work going on from a few groups in spherical tokamaks.

I do think that ITER is a waste of time. It's already a desperately outdated reactor in many ways, especially its magnet set-up. And it's so fucking HUGE!

these reactors work perfect, for decades, great for plasma physics, but it's not for power production

if you want fusion power, there is a perfect source in the sky, you just need green plants or solar panels to harvest this energy

Solar panels stop functioning after 5 years and cost more resources to produce than the resources they provide. The barrier to entry is also extremely high.
Fusion power is expected to produce more energy than fossil fuels with less materials and with dramatically less side products.

these panels have been running for 35 years and are still at 95% capacity
ISS and every satellite is powered by solar panels, these things are there for decades and get never replaced, you only need basic materials like glass, silicon copper and aluminium. this technology is common and works like a charm
fusion does not work at all, it's just a waste of money and will not produce a single watt within our lifetime

changing over to 100% solar and wind isn't just a matter of building more solar and wind farms-you need to also addd in an absolutely massive amount of power storage. Take a city like LA-it uses about 71 thousand megawatthours of electricity per day. Now LA and the surrounding areas are pretty darn sunny-it gets around 280 sunny days per year, but you still are going to have cloudy days,both intermittent and occaisionally very overcast. So really given the possibility of cloudy weather you'd want enough battery capacity to power the whole city for at least a few days, let's say 48 hours-if we use the sizeable Tesla battery system in Australia as an example of power storage, given about 140 thousand megawatthours of electricity usage over 2 days, we'd just need to build 1400 stations just as big as that one to power La for 2 days, with a land usage level of about...20 square miles?

hydroelectricity exists, today we use it to balance out changes production and demand, this can also be done in the future. In sunny regions like California or Australia you can also use Solar power towers. Heat can be stored quite well with molten salt.
Also going 100% renewable will take decades, electric cars will be common. Old batteries are already being used to store energy, There will be more then enough storage capacity.

can you give me specific numbers about how many dams you would need to do this and how many molten salt heat storage sytems and explain to me how you'd do that in a place like california that sodomizes every large construction project half to death with red tape?

And remember-California is expected to have population growth of about 11 million people over the next decade, and i imagine quite a few of those people will be going to LA. Renewables and storage systems are incredibly land-hungry in a place with pretty high land demand....kinda seems like just slapping down a dozen nuclear power plants would be easier

You just need some improvements on the national grid to connect existing hydro with wind and solar. The rest is done locally with battery storage. One or two of these fancy containers in your little town are enough. More for large cities.
