i don't know what sort of math you're doing, but for calculus if you just go to the lectures, it will (or it did for me) eventually click with you. algebra is the basic math which everything builds on, and higher level math is just understanding what numbers to plug into a calculator.
of course some shit you have to know, like how power rules work for derivations and shit like that, but it's not like you have to memorize your multiplication tables or anything. most stuff is plugging values into formulas, or just following a list of instructions (like solving an integral). you do them exactly the same way every time,
but really do hammer down algebra. you're using it in physics, biology, chemistry, programming, economics, etc. if you're using math in them, it's algebra.
