>>10949468>>10949640>For a PhD this is trueFor a PhD in CS, it puts you on the track to do work in "true CS" which involve theory (complexity, algorithms, ToC, cryptography), systems (compilers, OS, graphics - which involves either methods or visualization having to do with lots of physics, embedded, network, good overlap with EE, cryptosystems), or applications like AI/ML. Most of this is research oriented, but some if it isn't, and jobs for this exist in and out of academia is relative abundance compared to PhD jobs across all fields where you actually put your PhD topic to use.
Bachelor's in CS has some pretty great jobs out the gate, but the overwhelming majority of them end up being basic software dev. You have great security and benefits, but imo your job prospects / description err less on science and mathematics and more on technician. In CS, you're doing proper mathematical and scientific work, especially in mathematics if you're in theory, and more so for engineering if you do systems.
