Phylogeny

Given the vast array of life forms on this planet, we would be ignorant to think that the basal should lead to intelligence like humans. From the primordial ooze we believe a single group of organisms arose this is the root basal from which all other organisms evolved. The biochemistry likely formed many other intelligent organisms with rich communication abilities similar to birds or dolphins. However we have no reason to believe they would develop a need for radio waves that would lead to interstellar communication.

I propose a supercomputer which calculates all possible phylogenetic clades based on the original root basal from which all life must form. This could be used as a way of testing the Drake equation and seeing what organisms would actually go on to develop technologies greater than the rich communication seen within birds today.
