Younger Dryas

Isn't it suspicious how the earliest civilizations we have records for started just after the Younger Dryas period? What caused such a cataclysmic event in the earth's history, and what are the chances were return back to the ice age again?

Could civilization even survive another ice age?
They say that the reason Canada has so many lakes is because the entire continental landmass was crushed under a literal mile of ice. The Great Plains of America are so flat because glaciers drifting off the ice sheet scraped the land and flattened everything. It's impossible to imagine the scale of this.
