How could I get into biomechanical industrial production field?

Atm I'm studying engineering physics with biomedical spec, but this concentrates mainly in topography.
I'm thinking about switching into more into combination of bioinstrumentation and control systems but I'd like to do this in industrial production field.
What should I study?
What programs should I start to learn?
What programs would be good to learn how to design an electronical engineering solutions?
What kind of occupations could I aim to take (from solution designer to anything of maintenance of industrial production)? Please give me a short description of a occupation.
Should I use my time to go into a workshop and tinker around a bit?
