I want to produce some hydrocarbon gases such as methane and ethane with bacterial fermentation in a bioreactor. I did some research , but I think /sci/entists from here will have some cooler ideas.

cody's lab has a video showing a methane generator. tl;dr you shove a load of shit in it and keep it warm.

The fermentation process is exothermic so thermal isolation is enough to keep it warm. Fresh dung works well. In some countries it is illegal to mix bacterial colonies. I have no idea about the reasoning since this was done since the stone age in my country but effectively you cannot dump food waste into a dung pile. This could impact your plans.

Villages in India make biomethane digesters. Middle school students make them from carboys for their science fair projects. I'm sure you can do it too. It is super easy.
