I think I may have gotten that in one of my many attempts, but it didn't seem like it fit. I'm rusty as all fuck with algebra (taking chem this semester...again).

8 = -1/x - 8 (Multiplication is distributive over addition)
16 = -1/x (additive inverse of -8)
16x = -1 (multiplicative inverse of 1/x)
x = -1/16 (multiplicative inverse of 16)

Try it. Just substitute the x in the original equation and you will see it works

It doesn't work you brainlet. Plug in -8.125 for x and add that to 8. You get -(1/-.125), which is equal to 8.
