>>10936580Can't say I've read it, but just looking at the table of contents, it seems like it covers the basic theory you need for aircraft structural analysis. If you're learning this stuff for the first time, it looks like a good book.
If you're in, or going into, industry, I would recommend Niu's red book and/or Bruhn's Analysis & Design of Flight Vehicle Structures, for a few reasons:
>It seems that Megson has no discussion of joints (riveted joints, fastened joints, lugs). I would say a stress engineer will probably spend 1/3 to 1/2 of his time analyzing joints.>While a book like Megson will typically give you the theory, for some problems, the "solution" typically comes down to sone expression multiplied by some test-derived factor, many of which you would have to dig through old NACA papers to find. Niu and Bruhn will often provide charts and tables for you in the text, saving you the trouble.>Bruhn, Niu, and Peery's "Aircraft Structures" are time-tested industry standards, so if you're putting together stress notes for FAA certification, the guy signing off on your work won't bat an eye if your analysis references one of these books, whereas he might want to dig into your work more if you reference another bookLikewise, if you're interested in specialized subtopics of stress analysis, like FEM, fatigue, or damage tolerance, you'll have to get books on those specific topics.
