Wasps in the Midwest all die in the Winter... EXCEPT for the queen. The queen outlives nearly all her children, burrowing past tree bark to hibernate through the harsh winter in solitude.

Biology drives her to birth new queens in the Spring. These are the only children she'll know as she passes. They are tasked with the same yearly life and death cycle and begin their own colonies.

And what of her workers who have worked tirelessly to please their queen? They build her a home, meticulously crafted from wood pulp that's been chewed and mixed with their own saliva. They bring her sustenance. They protect her in numbers.

Do they know their fate? Is it a fair life? What do they know of the grand plan? When the last worker dies, does he damn this Earth, perceiving failure to be there for his queen?

Are they... happy?
