I think one reason is political. The Nobels are a Globohomo awards show and aren’t serious and objective like they claim to be. Russia has a space program and Sweden has IKEA, but look at the discrepancy in awards.
I think another reason is migration. A lot of Asians move to the West for education. I’d like to see a chart broken down by race instead of nationality.
That said, an aversion to risk probably plays a part in it.
