They must know that atmospheric erosion takes place over geologic timescales, so it isn't an issue for us. Create an atmosphere on Mars and it'll still be there in 1,000 or 10,000 years. Even the Moon has enough gravity to sustain an atmosphere over any appreciable timescale.
You're not going to go to bed one night on Mars and then wake up in a vacuum. Such a boring, tiresome myth to have to dispel and see played out time and time again.
