Anecdotes are shit evidence for two main reasons;
first, any person will have a lot of rare and unique events happen in their life. If they think that just because they personally were in two plane crashes or knew three different people who died from trying to ride a shark, that doesn't mean those things are common in the whole world. Their life experience is just unusual.
Secondly, if an event is rather rare but still happens often enough to be important, it's more likely that you DIDN'T experience it. For example, if you have never personally had a car burst into flames, that doesn't mean cars can't burst into flames. Or if you never personally saw a pitbull attack somebody, that doesn't mean pitbulls don't attack people. For rare events like these statistical data is much more important than personal experience.
