Mid 20s NEET with STEM degree.
I can hyperfocus 15 h/day for long periods without burning out if I like the subject.
What is my best shot at getting rich?
Whatever requires a lot of mental stamina an long hours.

I was thinking about:
* creating my own software and sell it: if I fail I am still a programmer.
* algorithmic trading: but if I can't make a profit I have just wasted time.

Well, you're going to have to look into self-employment. Try reading about how to start and maintain a business. You need to spend a lot of time brainstorming and doing market research one what people need to make there lives better. I would try finding out what do other companies and business want. What can you do to help them make more money? Perhaps a new piece of software or app which cold help increase their revenue? Once you made your decision, you're going to have to pitch your idea to your new customer. Tell them why you're idea will make them rich, then they'll make I deal with you if its worth it.

Make phone calls. Set meetings. Companies are run by people you know. But don't just show up. Bring something worth while to the table.

I was in your shoes a year ago but without the degree. I am just now beginning to make it but it ended up not involving my brain too much, or programming. Just try hard for a long time, start small but work biz ideas to completion.

Just to let the you, the advise given, although simple, is not easy. It's like writing a program with a function: startBusiness(), but not knowing how to implement it. It's going to require a lot of work. You don't want to generate just one idea, becuase most ideas fail. Don't get to attached to on specific idea at first. You want to come up with multiple ideas for income.

I am a first year EE student who got recruited for an internship at an algorithmic trading firm doing software and implementation of algos on their diff platforms; i was recruited due to getting good grades. future looks pretty bright. a few years ago I asked myself how I could best get a stable path to decent wealth with my intellect; my conclusion was get good grades and try to become an indispensable asset. working well desu I recommend it
