>>10916012>the doctors gave me the ability to visualize>I had aphantasia until I was put on risperidoneThe problem with you and almost everyone else in this thread is you're all assuming you have good insight into your own mental processes.
I am 99% certain if you had taken a mental rotation test before "doctors gave [you] the ability to visualize" and then took one after that you would not have significantly improved results on the second test.
We need objective testing if this topic is going to have any sort of greater than /x/ tier substance to it. I bet most of the people saying they "have aphantasia" still have visualization activity going on in the brain and just feel like it's not vivid seeming enough to count, and similarly people saying they're great at this and imagine high detail imagery constantly are probably not having any extra / special brain activity going on compared to the former group of people either, with the real explanation just being they're overly impressed by their own notion of vividness for what's far more sparse in detail and cemented together by semantic narration than they're discerning.
People and their self-directed opinoins are the absolute worst sources of information on the reality of their own cognitive functions. You're a lot more susceptible to conclusion warping biases when the subject is yourself than you are for any other subjects. And almost everyone believes the exact opposite that they are the best, most authoritative source on what's going on in their own heads, with that certainty itself warping the reliability of their conclusions.
