This falls under math, more specifically mathematical logic. I won't be giving you a lecture on this since the thing is taught over a whole semester at uni, but there are a lot of videos on youtube that might help you get started. At our university the course is called discrete math and covers proofs, boolean algebra, set theory and a few other thigns i don't remember.
Now if you do learn about it, you can easily solve this using the tactics you learned in the same way as you would solve a question that looks like "if sam has 3 times more apple than rogers, and rogers has 10 times more apple than tim. How many apples do each person have if the total amount of apples are 654"
Now I made this shit up, didn't test to see if it makes sense, but the idea is that you would be using algebra to solve that. Similarly, you would be using whatever you learned in proof theory to solve the original question you posted.
