The only glaring problem I can see is doing 2 chapters a day out of Stewart's book. You'd finish the entire book in two weeks. That's three semesters worth of calculus

Algortihms Analysis means found runtime and memory complexity usually just small section in algortihms book, this is a pure Algortihms Analysis using more advance math for compute O()

Many people say Stewart. I had Bivens and Howard Anton in my college. It was enough and pretty good too. I am reading Stewart for refreshment. Try either of them. I hope to decide which is better after I finish this.

Sedgewick (a big name in algorithms) had a book called "An Introduction to Analysis of Algorithms". I've never read it myself, but you could try it, I'm sure you'd find it useful

If you actually want to learn calculus you need to read spivak or apostol because they are rigorous on proofs. If you can't prove it, you don't understand it.

I'm currently jumping a lot between books.
Is anyone interested in a reading club?

I already started a reading club in 2015 on /sci/ and it ended miserably, it was about the Landau mechanics book. The core issue is that people say yes but don't find the time. And I also saw people start reading clubs on /sci/, then stuff being discussed on Discord and nobody shows up there.
So is anybody interested - and actually knows they have the time? I'd be willing to moderate here.
Undergrad level Algebra would be good but I'm open.

I just want to get good at quickly asserting and proving propositions in maths. Like here is a question.

Prove that a function f(A->B) is injective if it has a left inverse function g.
Left inverse is a function g(B->A) such that g(f(a)) = a
I mean I can mentally feel good about
6 + 8 + 9 = 23 in a seconds, but proof like about makes me think. I know if I repeat going through thought of proving it I will get better at feeling secure about it. But the problem is I can't even prove it first time.

I would be very much interested in that. What text would we use? I've been going through Artin's first chapter a week ago in fact, and it's pretty good, lots of matrices though.

Well did you actually prove it or not? It's not that difficult. A function is injective if f(a)=f(b)->a=b (or the contrapositive). Suppose a function has a left inverse g(), i.e. g(f(x))=x, and that f(a)=f(b). Then g(f(a))=g(f(b)), because g() is a function. By definition of g() we have g(f(a))=a and g(f(b))=b and g(f(a))=g(f(b))->a=b. We have proven that f() is injective.

Definitely Strang for a first course, to acquaint oneself with systems of equations, vectors, matrices and subspaces on lots of examples, then something more theoretical like Axler, Hoffman&Kunze, Friedberg&Insel, Shilov, there's no shortage of books on the subject

I think that's a bad idea. Omnipresent /sci/ chats like /mg/ are more effective way to keep it going and also to have others see it. As I've said above, I've seen many attempts at reading groups on /sci/

Consider above two lines as H and T.

Prove that H off T. That is H is true if and only if T is true.
This has two parts. If part. And only if part.
1) if part. H if T. That is if a function has left inverse then it is injective.
2) only if part. H only if T. That is if H is injective then it has a left inverse.
Help me prove these two guys. Use formal logic pls.
