>>10910121This is a half truth. While it's true that the US admission process favors the rich, the minority part is always blown out of proportion. Thousands of people apply to top colleges every year, so the competition is always fierce, no matter if you're black or hispanic. If you are, there are still 200 of them with >1500 SAT, ridiculously high GPA, and great ECs. Obviously, Asians have better stats in general, but it's also true that Asians generally come from magnet schools, top schools, etc. Just look at the USAMO winners of last year: while they are certainly Asian, they also come from place such as Phillips Academy, Phillips Exeter, Palo Alto High School, etc. They are smart, sure, but they also receive better education and are most likely rich.
Hispanics and Latinos instead, come from more modest or directly poor backgrounds, which makes the comparison harder to make.
So when someone says
>you can get into Yale with a 1300 SAT if you are latinoYou are wrong. For fucks sake, even Questbridge asks you to have at least 1360.
>>10912282Times changed. Getting into a top school before was a joke; being smart was well enough. There's a lot more to do in these days.
>>10910194This. The chinese system is not perfect either; whether you get a good score in the ?? depends on the high school you went. Now imagine competing with those elite high schools in big cities who maintain teens studying 15h/day. You are royally fucked, and it benefits the rich class too.
