If he gets to criticize the IPCC and call them absurdly conservative, then anyone gets to call anything absurdly optimistic/pessimistic. Deniers can just ignore the figures now, if we let his retarded precedent go unchallenged.
There is no causal mechanism for his mass die-off, so even if his inflated heating figures were true, we'd still be fine. Unlike animals, we can intelligently adapt, using different strains of crops in different soil. Unlike animals, our habitable zone can be extended to every single part of this planet.
There is vast amounts of slack in the global food system. Immense amounts of land go towards meat, wine, tobacco and non-utilitarian food products. Huge amounts of food gets wasted because of shitty storage in 3rd world countries, 1st world countries destroy food if it's unaesthetically pleasing and they certainly don't use land efficiently. The cherry on the cake is that obesity is more prevalent than starvation, a trend that's likely to continue.
The only thing that would be seriously damaging is if fossil fuels were to unexpectedly run out in under a decade, preventing transport of food. This is, of course, impossible and we could use fission for cargo ships and solar anyway.
It isn't just physically wrong that climate change could wipe out our species, the statement doesn't even make sense. There's no way it
