When I first learned how a Jet engine worked i was all like "well what if you put a gearbox in the middle of the shaft so the exhaust drives the compressor even fasterer for INFINITE POWER"

Took me until University thermodynamics to realise that yes, the guys that designed this shit back in the 50's did indeed know their shit better than a 12 year old.

Actually when it comes to endeavours which require good tastes, instincts and natural born talent rather than knowledge... a 5 year old could whip the floor with stock market traders, video game designers, dating, speech, lotteries, movie directing, writing books, good ideas.

Look at all the uncharted territory nobody bothered with: Tesla, Da Vinci, Einstein
and would have never bothered. EVER.
Why did it take 117 years to discover CAS 9 ?
Why did it take 117 years to discover quantum computers. And so on and so forth.
Why will it take 10,000 years till somebody kills The Middle East?

I had an idea for a magnetic crossbow when I was younger, basically I came up with two designs, the first uses two extremely powerful passive magnets (magnets that don’t require power) one on the string and one fixed in place, basically the one on the string would pull the string towards the fixed magnet, but it would only pull it just close enough to the fixed magnet for a material to be inserted in between them which would neutralize the pull between the magnets thus releasing the string. This wouldn’t work for two reasons, firstly there are probably no powerless magnets that are magnetic and light enough to preform that successfully and on a practically sound weapon, the second design was very similar except it uses an electric magnet, this wouldn’t work even if you had somewhere to hold the string in place because you simply can’t store that much power in an assault rifle sized weapon and it would be incredibly cost ineffective. Along with that this design is basically just brute forcing it so even if you did have the energy required you would still be better off making an actual railgun which will be more accurate and probably more powerful as well.
