They can't outgrow their base muscle size. The additional strength comes from neural optimization.
Diet shouldn't lead to 0% hypertrophy. People can build muscle even while in a deficit

also this study feels cherrypicked, i remember several studies even men aged 80 were experiencing hypertrophy *on a regimen that included whey protein*

bonus points if im right: youre a skinny nerd or skinnyfat who just refuses to belieive you could get out of your basement and actually get fit huh, better just blame it on genetics

Age-related hypertrophy is not the same as resistance-related hypertrophy. There is almost zero correlation between base muscle size and probability of being able to build muscle.
The study says longer training could potentially help but it didn't help for me. The only thing I didn't try is lifting 2 days a week instead of 3+, but if I do people are just going to say I'm lazy. And if I train more, people will say I just need to rest. And it's a never-ending cycle of unscientific thinking. Some people simply can't build muscle and the proportion is probably close to 25%. Diet shouldn't result in literally 0% hypertrophy, people can build muscle even while on a deficit

Basically a non responder could work harder but not see the same results as an extreme responder because of the biochemistry involved. Sorry mis/fit/, it wasn't just hard work, you got lucky. This is a good study because it completely destroys the broscience plaguing the industry.

We need more research into figuring out how to get non-responders to respond to resistance training like normal people. This would improve the lives of millions who struggle to build muscle and I'm sure the scientists involved in the breakthrough research will be rewarded handsomely!

I would bathe them in gold if they could find a cure. It could also help those with Duchennes and shit perhaps, though the mechanism is different, this could save them with some luck
