We accidentally terraformed our own planet into an inhospitable shithole. We don't know the 1st thing about terraforming other than it's hard and very political. Yet people think we can just hop on a rocket to another planet, wave a magic/science wand, and another planet will turn into paradise. If that were possible we'd just do it here!!

Terraforming is a silly idea in my opinion. Not because it isn’t possible, it might be, but because I think that, by the time we could do it, we’ll just be able to thrive on barren worlds anyway. Immortal, perfect machine bodies.

You're right, it doesn't matter in a cosmic sense. Right now we are not advanced enough to shrug off the destruction of our ecosystem though. We will need it for another century or two while we develop the tech to survive on other planets. It's also just a big shame to ruin this planet because it is very pretty
