The future, with hardware starting to reach physical limitations without a major innovation improvements in performance will come from software. For this to happen more efficient algorithms need to be worked on and used. Complexity theory is required to analyze them.

Complexity Science* Not so much as the Big O notation stuff in CS but the study of complex systems. Related to virtually every field, from well CS, Mathematics, History, Economics, Sociology, Biology etc
