Why does this matter though, how is it any different to BFR, SLS or any other rocket? Who cares if you're sat between two huge tanks of explosive fuel, the alternative is sitting ontop of them. Either way you're fucked if things go wrong. Launch escape systems are only ever viable for non-explosive failures in practise.

hydrogen is not a high explosive. Pic related, hydrogen is lighter than air so when it burns it makes a plume that goes straight up, whereas gasoline just pools on the ground. If something goes wrong at hypersonic speeds you're fucked anyway.
