high-energy theory is all beautiful math, that’s why Witten won the fields medal and ignited all the pure mathematicians interest. in fact one of the criticisms lobbed against high energy theoretical physics (by e.g. sabine brainletfelder) is that high-energy physicists are TOO obsessed with mathematical beauty.
