Or I can go to a really good Aero school and have loans I wont pay off ever.

1. Student Loans - if you can get a free education go with this every time. Let's say you borrow $50,000 and pay it off 10 years, that's roughly $500 with interest.

Put that $500 a month into your 401k out school, with your employer match and 7% interest you will have 120k by the time you are 32 instead of just finishing your loans.

That money alone sitting in your 401k will be worth n $1 million by the time you retire.

2. Flexibility, if you don't like aerospace you can get a job designing car parts or pressure vessels. If you are in a industry downturn cycle you aren't locked into a career and can move into something else across the country.

3. Aerospace theory is great but you can learn a lot of that shit on the job or with a master's degree later if you so choose

In retrospect, why would anyone study MechE? You're going through extremely difficult schooling just to become a glorified factory worker, whose coworkers don't have college degrees. It's a scam.

In the oil industry I have often thought the same thing, but looking at some of the "field engineers" I work with, they had to work 15+ years welding in the rain snow and heat in order to build up the theoretical knowledge to oversee projects while we just had to sit in an air conditioned classroom and do some math for 4 years.

With a college degree you'll always have a one up finding a new job over someone that doesn't as well.

Not saying their experience is worse than ours, they both bring things to the table, we just were able to buy our way into the guild by going to college.

What country do you live in? In America federal and state student loans have at least 5% interest.

I am not >>10898384 but $2500 (5% of 50k) seems like an even bigger investment for a 401k, thus making it an even worse idea to get indebted
