first, the fact that he was hired by a school like Dalton to teach math and physics after dropping out of university twice raises serious eyebrows. this just doesn't happen no matter how 'smart' you are.
secondly, he started his career on wall street after being hired by a parent of one of said student's at dalton - because, why? he was so good at teaching high school physics? was he that impressive at parent teacher conference?
furthermore, he wasn't really known for his prowess as a portfolio manager, despite claiming to have made his billions from it.
also, his opinions on science and technology were often ridiculed by his dinner party guests (behind his back of course.)
basically, he has little to know credentials in math or science. rather, he was approached/recruited to his real job for reasons that likely had little to do with his math/sci abilities.
