Is there a proof that the middle one is the median when n is even?

The middle number is median is a definition of median, isn't it? If you have n odd numbers, the middle on this median, and if you have n even number, the average of those two number in the middle is median.

1. the sum of n numbers is (n(n+1))/2

2. to take the average of those numbers would be to divide their sum by n leaving (n+1)/2

3. if n is even, that is the half way point where the mean equals the median.
