Before I was only interested in music and being a musician, but my first biology class in college, I thought the chemical aspect of our biological systems was interesting and my interest kept growing from there. I think being a musician and going into research takes a very similar mindset. A musician wants to create or develop something new or unique and a researcher wants to learn something unknown and that's likely why I was drawn into it.

He liked that I was interested in his research, read his publications (I had also read about similar stuff prior way in the past so I was able to follow along with what he was saying and add into the conversation instead of just listening to him ramble, and have the necessary lab experience to work in his lab.

So, I got into the lab...how cringe of an answer did I give lads? I'm dying on the inside right now out of sheer embarrassment.
