>>10893457"poisons" that you refer to are generally terpenoids
>pic relatedthey are long hydrocarbon chains, with a lot of variety in functional groups attached and isomers, including THC
for my BSc project I had to extract carotenoids (type of terpenoid) from green tissue
The procedure was as follow
>grind up freeze dried plant material>add methanol>leave on ice>add water>centrifuge>collect the bottom of the test tube>use HPLC/UPLC for separation and identificationBecause terpenoids are lipophilic they will always find it more energetically favourable to reside in non-polar solvents (methanol) as oppose to polar solvents (water)
Now to do it home, you could probably separate a significant portion of these terpenoids by grinding it up, placing the material in spirits such as vodka, shaking it, adding water and letting it rest on ice for some time
the water will sit on top and you will need to get rid of it, then let the alcohol evaporate and you will be left with the terpenoids
you will not be able to isolate, let alone identify the specific molecules within the plant, so make sure to use a plant that will not contain anything harmful
