I went to a college with students who were actually intelligent, and all of them were interested in philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, ontology, etc.
But a lot of STEM students aren't very intelligent and aren't able to truly abstract. Look at /sci/, most of the posters here are really midwits and it shows. But this isn't a fault in STEM, it's just the way most people are. Truly intelligent people are rare, most STEM people aren't truly intelligent, so they aren't able to think about these things. It's not a flaw with STEM people, it's a flaw with people in general.
