Even without dark energy to accelerate expansion, the Universe isn't dense enough to reverse expansion and recollapse. The big crunch won't happen unless some new physics comes completely out of left field and pulls space back together. Otherwise, galaxies will continue to move out of each others' cosmic horizons and become causally disconnected.
