Is it psychological and biological? Learnt behaviour? They weren't taught to be girls though.

Look honestly most people are putty that will sink into the shape of whichever mould you place them in. Some people are very much not putty but they are very few.

Most people seem to seek acceptance externally instead of internally.

It was really about how well the human mind adapts to a change of environment. Too well it seems. It should be seen as a warning to leaders about the responsibility they hold by placing putty people into roles.

If I were to dress like a girl I would act all cute and girly because it's a goofy joke, but that doesn't mean if a man disrespects me I won't give him a beat down. Most likely the dress limits how you can move, and seeing someone in a dress naturally makes you see them in a more womanly light even if they don't change how they move. Look at the wording here "differently, more like a woman than like a man". It's not completely vague but it's not really precise either, they don't even say what movements changed or how. It doesn't prove much (just like most of this experiment).

There was some movie where the 'strong independent' heroine was imprisoned by her enemies and she's giving this hardass speech through the bars to her captor. I remember thinking, first, you take away the body hugging plastic jumpsuit that looks badass and put them in a smock with Teletubbies all over it. Then you make sure you have a clipboard and an apple when you go see them. As soon as they start their hardass speech you take a bite out of the apple and look at the clipboard. Then you look up, sniff really loudly through your nose and say something minor to one of the turnkeys, as your show your back to the hardass.

I swear people don't understand power dynamics at all.
