Animal feel pain, they have nervous systems. Yes we have to be honest about our evolutionary history, but as a stewart of the planet we should also leave behind such barbaric practice. Human evolutionary history was full of slavery, rape, deathmatches all of which we left behind. Greek and Roman culture was about diddling kids, and we don't do that no more. The moral arc of history should bend towards justice, and we need justice for our non-humans brothers and sisters (because every species in this planet is related).
