I received no offers and eventually settled on an American state school. A few years later I checked the faculty pages for postgrads and all the positions were filled with fugee ME/African men and women who's CVs were extremely unremarkable (didn't graduate with any distinctions, so lowish 50-60% GPAs, no publications, no projects, no conferences).
Then at my department our HoD started grooming this lazy fat woman who also got her position on unremarkable credentials. He kept telling her he has a faculty job waiting for her as soon as she graduates etc. Of course, she ended up dropping out without a single publication after wasting 3 years of funding. Meanwhile the same HoD explicitly told me "you have the wrong skin colour for this career" when I told him I was still trying to get into academia. This is despite me being the first student to get his own grants and high impact papers in several years.
One of the professors here is a young black guy and he is openly racist. He refuses to take in any students other than black males and white females (no black females).
I accept this is the new reality, but I can't believe Nature News etc. has the fucking gal to imply there is discrimination against anyone other than whites and asians.

Besides I hate it when people try to cite background when I personally come from a poor, downtrodden family barely surviving in wageslave shit. I was mugged almost every month walking between my home and high-school.
