i argue that promoting STEM and STEM education would be the solution to many of the world’s problems, especially in the US.

in the US we see a lot of dysfunction in society due to people who are economically disempowered and socially isolated. a common theme among these people is a sort of escapism that manifests in quite a different few ways people use to substitute their own need for fulfillment in life with artificial sources for substitute fulfillment. these include people finding fulfillment by projecting themselves into the lives of fictional TV characters, video game characters, anime, fantasy books, fantasy versions of themselves they craft on social media, or live-action role playing as fictional characters or attaching themselves to similar fantasy/ideology/identity groups like furries, cosplayers, pride drag queens, or neofascists with silly uniforms and flags.

the common theme here is coping with failure at attaining fulfillment in normal society by adopting a fantastical and unrealistic mental picture.

how can STEM help this? a good STEM education helps people to think critically and sort out fact from fiction, fake news from actual facts, and conspiracy schizophrenia from sane thinking using analytical thought. increasing funding to create more STEM jobs will facilitate young people attaining a respectable position in society in a noble job, as opposed to seeking jobs in exploitative and corrupt corporations and bloated government bureaucracies.
