Why don't we start making again steam machines for normal cars and shit?

Imagine plugging an electric boiler powered by solar power to it.

Because it's not very energy efficient at all to use solar power to that end. Not to mention solar power won't help in things like bad weather climates. Also, steam-powered shit is gigantic because of how bad it's energy conversion is.

I'm not saying it's impossible. There are already and have been steam-powered vehicles. Doing it with solar power simply seems unrealistic and you run into too many difficulties which would defeat the purpose of a car. There's a reason that gasoline is used. I would actually propose ammonia engines before a solar powered one.

Neither are "clean free energy". In usage it is, sure; you only have water as emissions.

Both solar panels and electric batteries necessary to make hundreds of millions of cars have to be mined from the ground because they're made from rare earth metals and other exotic compounds. Semiconductors in photo cells aren't cheap either.
