Seems like he should actually research what kinds of nuclear reactors are out there now before going for scare-mongering tactics as is nearly always the case for nuclear power. An actual nuclear explosion can never happen, for instance, just based on the actual isotopes and fuel that are used at these facilities.
The technology in nuclear energy has leaped ahead so far ahead since the 60's that it's hard to know where to even begin. Breeder reactors is one. They have thermal control membranes that they fill with a solution of fissile material and solidifies upon cooling.
There's really no reason not to invest in it as it can easily fill the needs of the world's population with very little waste in it's current form.
