A lot of braindead newfriends tend to look at 4chan and immediately conclude that due to the fact that 99% of the posts are infantile shitflinging that the other 1% are also that, when that 1% is actually much higher quality than most forums that go through every measure to enforce quality. It takes quite a while of browsing 4chan to understand it but you'll eventually get it as well. Think of it this way - look at Earth, life here constitutes 99% having an average IQ of 0.01, and 1% having an average IQ of 100. Would you consider Earth pre-sapient because it is full of low-quality unevolved life?
Also another example, and I know that I'll trigger a lot of people with it, is /pol/ - it is far more schizophrenic than this board yet managed to have a relevant affect on global internet culture, relevant enough to tip the scales of the US election. While 99% of the people there are useful idiots and basically retarded, that other 1% is what makes the difference because that board elite managed to pull a shilling campaign and singlehandedly steer the board in electing the (better according to their views) candidate. Same with /b/ a while ago, a literal sea of shit and piss that managed to pull countless of coordinated real life operations with quite a relevant political impact for its time.
/sci/ functions the exact same way but is merely in its infancy right now. Let it grow for a while and you'll eventually start seeing legit papers, not posted on vixra, pop out of here. It will however have much more schizos than now, which is just an unavoidable part of how imageboards work.
