I don't get this method of reassuring people. Those retards aren't a significant portion oc the pool of applicants OP will be competing with. Being in the top 0.001% means nothing if your competition is the top 0.0005%. Your average engineering undergrad may be near the top of the heirarchy in math compared to the general population, but that won't mean a damn thing if they try to go to grad school for math.

Engineers and physicsts are exposed to far more useful and difficult math than most mathematicians. An engineer or physicist who takes a single class on how to do proofs (real analysis or abstract algebra for most schools) is a far better mathematician than any undergrad mathematician.

More useful, definitely. More difficult... this is patently false in most cases. Engineers and physishits by and large flounder in proof based courses, and have very underdeveloped capacities for abstraction and often even basic logic. Source: Physics+Math undergrad

I'm an engineer and I took both heavily applied and proof-based classes and did well in both. I don't think proof-based classes are strictly harder. Proofs at an undergrad level aren't hard. They are almost purely working with definitions and harder theorems which were derived for you. They are only frustrating because sometimes you don't get that spark which you need to see the obvious answer; this is something that typical physicists and engineers, who are used to following strict problem-solving algorithms, are not used to, so they give up.

I just got sick of people in the BS program acting superior when I was in the BA program... so I switched... then got sick of people in the masters program acting superior... so I went for a masters... then I got sick of Phd students acting superior... now I'm there. Academic achievement is a honey trap anon. What ultimately turned me off of "higher" achievement was seeing how many PhD's had no jobs, how many post-docs were in their 30's and still earning <$50k, and talking to junior professors who couldn't do interesting research thanks to teaching, paperwork, and handholding incompetent undergrads.

Heat transfer isn't even relevant to the work, its just a question to weed out the retards and cheater.

This is blatantly false though. Having a differential or distribution do the heavy lifting on describing physical phenomena isn't the same as heavily reasoning your way out. In general, the more basic your tools, the harder your problems are going to be. Look at any advanced number theory, combinatorics, etc. You start with very little fancy notation and end up with papers that go on for ages.
t. math and physics double major, honors in both

I know people who graduated with worse GPA's than you in the same major who make upwards of 60k. Your wife (again, if she exists) should've knocked some sense in to you.

Experience is the most important thing to have. I finished my bachelors and made 100k last year. I've been out of school for 3 years now.

Also just an FYI being a good student does not correlate to being a good engineer.

Legitimately, fuck your masters. Find a job. It will teach you way more than any masters degree will. Industry and academia are so different, it will make your head spin.

You're right, but lack of these qualifications is an excuse for your boss to pay you like shit, even if you pull your weight better than the average guy with the qualifications. Sure, you could argue that you could pressure your boss by implying you'll leave, but where? It will be the same if you go away. If you call yourself competent, nobody will care if you don't have a masters with great grades. They'll deliberately pay you like shit because they know you don't have options
